The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) is a federal program that helps supplement the diets of low income elderly, sixty years of age or older, pregnant women and children up to age 6 in Georgia, by providing them with nutritious commodities and nutrition education at no cost.
Under CSFP, commodity foods are made available to the states by the United States Department of Agriculture. Foods available for monthly distribution include, canned vegetables, cereal, pasta, canned meats, canned fruit, juices, peanut butter and cheese. In Georgia, two Food Banks have been selected to distribute these products: The Atlanta Community Food Bank and America’s Second Harvest Food Bank of Coastal Georgia.
The Food Banks have subcontracted with local agencies throughout their distribution areas for the distribution of the food. These agencies are located in 31 counties in Georgia:
The Atlanta Community Food Bank will serve Bartow, Butts, Carroll, Cobb, Coweta, Dawson, DeKalb, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Morgan, Rockdale, Polk Spalding and Walton counties. The food bank can be reached at (678) 553-6000.
